Where to begin… I am starting this Blog to help my wife and me navigate through our journey with depression. The journey didn’t just start now, but it has recently become much more troubling.
The purpose of sharing this journey in cyberspace is to connect with all of you from around the world who are on similar journeys, learn from your experiences and hopefully share some of our experiences with you, especially if you are new to this ‘darkness’.
Overall, the theme of this Dialogue from the Depths blog will be “Make sweetness from bitterness”.
The format is simple – my wife and I will write to each other regularly and you are encouraged to ask questions, make comments, and basically join in our dialogue. My wife, Bittersweet1976, has written a great deal about her pain and struggles over the years and this content will be added and sorted into chronological categories on the left.
Please respect our desire to remain anonymous, for now. When that changes, we’ll let you know.
Looking forward to your company.

Thanks Astrid.
This is a really special surprise. I will elaborate more in an acceptance post soon, but for now, I just wish to convey that we’re extremely thankful for your support and encouragement.

This is such an interesting concept for a blog. I appreciate your openness about your and your wife’s depression. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety since childhood, and I know it can be hard to talk about (at least with certain people).

Sorry, I sometimes see my typos after I’ve already posted comments.

Hey ProgChik, thanks for your comment. I fixed the typo 😀
Blogging about our challenges (and successes) has been extremely helpful, especially when anxiety/paranoia make it hard for my wife to trust anyone in our ‘real lives’. I guess this is why I’ve become so passionate about the blogosphere and hope to eventually help others with mental health issues to experience similar benefits of blogging.

What a lovely way to handle depression – together! It’s such an important topic to write about and I always feel comforted reading other’s similar experiences. It reminds me that I’m not alone. And reading about a husband and wife team doing it together is so uplifting 🙂 I’m very much looking forward to reading more!

I can relate. I am a family physician too. My wife had BP2. It is a struggle. I wish I knew other physicians with similar experiences with their spouse. We keep it a secret for now from my family and my friends. I stumbled on your site from the BPhope page.

Wow. Thundercats77, I am so pleased you reached out to me, and commented here. Since I started blogging in Sept 2015, I’ve been looking to connect with other ‘partners-of’ depression (bp1/2) sufferers and haven’t seemed to find more than a couple of active bloggers. Now, a physician with similar experience with their spouse – that I wasn’t expecting to find! Please feel free to write to me privately – hubby1974@hushmail.com
You will see from our blog, my wife has struggled with acceptance of having the condition, and getting stabilized with treatment, so disclosure with family/friends hasn’t yet been the priority – although I wrote about disclosure in a post and on an online forum (?BPhope), which is how you found me. Actually, addressing self-stigma (and later general community stigma), is something I plan to look at in the near future.
Take care and be in touch

This really is a very cool idea for a blog. Not only the sharing of both your journeys through the depression tunnel but by doing so by cross-writing to each other. Brilliant!
