Me and my wife have repeated tension over the house cleaning – very common, if not universal, right?   But the focus of our dispute, is our difference of opinion when it comes to getting cleaning help – I want outside help. My wife doesn’t.

This is NO joke. We have some version of the following dialogue every week.

  • Wife:  I would love your help in cleaning up around here.
  • Me: Please get a cleaning lady / maid to help us.  (I’m working 60+hr/week)
  • Wife: The place is too messy – when things are tidier!
  • Me: Doh!!

I do get what she means, BUT it’s the perfect Fxxxing Catch 22.  So I give up trying for now and just find some humor to brighten the day. Something for everyone here. ENJOY & Happy New Year.

Thought of Vic when I found these. 😉

Kitchen Signs

1. Kitchen closed – – this chick has had it!
2. Martha Stewart doesn’t live here!!
3. I’m creative; you can’t expect me to be neat too!
4. So this isn’t Home Sweet Home… Adjust!
5. Ring Bell for Maid Service…If no answer do it yourself!
6. I clean house every other day…. Today is the other day!
7. If you write in the dust, please don’t date it!
8. I would cook dinner but I can’t find the can opener!
9. My house was clean last week, too bad you missed it!
10. A clean kitchen is the sign of a wasted life (or no internet)

Note to Wife: I don’t think it’s possible for you to not look good (see above), so I’m happy if we just focus on the house 😛

The Maid

A woman suspects her husband is cheating on her. One day, she dials her home and a strange woman answers. The woman says, ” Who is this?” “This is the maid,” answered the woman. “We don’t have a maid”, said the woman. The maid says, “I was hired this morning by the man of the house. The woman says, “Well, this is his wife. Is he there?” The maid replied, “he is upstairs in the bedroom with someone who I figured was his wife.” The woman is fuming. She says to the maid, “Listen, would you like to make $50,000?” The maid says, “What will I have to do?”

The woman tells her, “I want you to get my gun from the desk, and shoot the jerk and the witch he’s with.” The maid puts the phone down; the woman hears footsteps and the gun shots.

The maid comes back to the phone, “What do I do with the bodies?”  The woman says, “Throw them in the swimming pool.” Puzzled, the maid answers, “But there’s no pool here.” A long pause and the woman says, “Is this 212-832-4821?”

Clean as Cold Water Can Get Them

A man went to visit his 90 year old grandfather and while eating the breakfast of eggs and bacon prepared for him, he noticed a film-like substance on his plate. So he says, “Grandfather, are these plates clean?” His grandfather replies, “Those plates are as clean as cold water can get them, so go on and finish your meal.” That afternoon, while eating the hamburgers his grandfather made for lunch, he noticed many little black specks around the edge of his plate so again he asked, “Grandfather are you sure these plates are clean?” Without looking up from his burger, the grandfather says, “I told you those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them, now don’t ask me about it anymore.” Well, later that day, they were on their way out to get dinner. As he was leaving the house, grandfather’s dog who was lying on the floor started to growl and would not let him pass. “Grandfather, your dog won’t let me out.” Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching, his grandfather shouted, “Coldwater, get out of the way!”

If you didn’t see yesterday’s post,  click here.

Since I noticed my best blog hit day happened on a Friday, after posting some light hearted humor, I thought I should try the combination regularly – hence, Funny Fridays.

Here I will try share some funny thoughts, anecdotes or even plagiarized jokes (with recognition, of course).

This week, all orignals (i think), mostly stupid.  If you don’t get it, move on… any joke that needs an explanation is clearly not a GOOD joke.  Actually, writing good, original jokes is a great challenge – if you’re brave, try it out and share in comments.  Or feel free to try improve one of these by ‘rewording’.

  • Stick/roll on deodorant are apparently good for the environment.  They don’t work for me at all, so they’re not good for MY environment.  PYOO (pronounced pee-YOO)

  • True story: Recently, I shared with my wife an article from Psychcentral, Learn about Procrastination.  After reading the first part of the interesting article, I suggested we look at the second part, strategies to stop procrastination.  Her response:  “Let’s look at it  tomorrow“!!

Thanks to Astrid (http://astridswords.ca) for nominating me for The Versatile Blogger Award.  Her blog shares personal experiences living with epilepsy and encouragement for all to never give up.

Since starting blogging regularly a couple months ago, I have noticed different reactions to these awards.  Some view them as annoying ‘chain letters’, and others consider them as a great compliment.  I can see both perspectives, but overall if it helps new bloggers (like me) get noticed, then I reckon it’s POSITIVE.

Just one more comment, before I start answering the questions and nominating others.  The value of this process is increased by considering it’s criteria seriously: “consider the quality of the writing/photography, the uniqueness of the subjects covered and the level of love displayed in the words on the virtual page.”  I will do my best!

The rules:

  1. Thank the person that has nominated you & include a link to their blog.
  2. Nominate at least 15 blogs of your choice.
  3. Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination.
  4. Share seven different facts about yourself.

7 Facts about Hubby / Lee:

1. I originally hoped that my wife (Lee) would regularly write on this blog too, but she’s not yet ready (although she contributed to these facts).

2. I never liked reading as a kid, possibly struggling with yet-to-be diagnosed dyslexia, and yet I seem to enjoy the writing / blogging.  I love analogies.

3. We really enjoy a nice chocolate (who doesn’t!), but it can cause alot of reflux. Mars and M&Ms are favorites.

4. My wife loves to sing and I love to listen.  (I didn’t get those singing genes).

5. Our dog had 6 puppies during her first year of life – now she’s nearly 9 years old and somewhat sick recently (praying for recovery).

6. We both had umbilical hernia operations as children, and we swam with dolphins, as a couple (no connection – I know).

7.  I like making sushi – my wife likes to eat it!

Bonus fact: I would like to create a ‘haven’ for new bloggers dealing with mental health issues to support each other.

Just a brief rambling reflection on Thanksgiving.

After reading a couple of articles about Thanksgiving Day, a national holiday celebrated for the last ~150 years in USA and Canada (on a different day), I wondered about how many people actually think about thankfulness or gratitude on this day, or any day.

Much has recently been written on the benefits of gratitute (Amy Morin – Psychologytoday).  Taken from this summary of some research articles, gratitude (acknowledging and being thankful for all that you have) can improve relationships, promote new relationships, improve physical and psychological health, reduce aggression, improve sleep, promote self-esteem through appreciating other peoples accomplishments, reduce stress and foster resilience!

How much would you pay for a medication that had all these benefits? Such a drug would make billions in revenue – right?!

Well, all these health and relationship benefits can be attained for free, by anyone, just by spending a few minutes a day keeping a gratitude journal.

Actually, this is one of the reasons I don’t like Thanksgiving Day (see afterthought below).  Gratitude is not something that can be done once a year and expect to see any benefit.  In fact, health writer Amy Morin recently described a survey that revealed that the stress of shopping, cooking and spending time with family on Thanksgiving Day actually makes it harder to be thankful on this day itself.

The only thing left to do, is share a few things I am thankful for.  I am grateful that…

I am alive
I have an incredible wife
I have 4 amazing kids
I have a job
I can hear (my wife’s singing is beautiful)
I own a house (large mortgage though)
I am generally healthy (only occasional back pain)
I discovered blogging
I have friends, both ‘real’ and ‘virtual’ (in the blogosphere)
my wife and I shared our relationship goals yesterday

Afterthought: I should acknowledge that I am not American.  This is not meant to be something I’m either thankful or not thankful for – sorry… confusing 😉
